Houtaro!
The boy's head shot up from where he was studying... attempting to study... okay, so he'd been falling asleep, but the attempt still counted!
More importantly, that voice was familiar. Even if understanding it wasn't. "Hopper1?"
Houtaro! Great, it's working; I knew that Speech correspondence course was a good idea.
Houtaro looked around, trying to figure out where the Chemy had gotten to this time. "I thought you were speaking Japanese..."
That's the magic of- well, the wizardry of it. Learning the Speech means any living thing can understand you, and you get a good idea of what they're saying, too!
A different voice came, equally familiar, equally surprising. Wait for me, Hopper1! And that course was my idea, don't forget that.
Steamliner didn't actually sound mad, though.
Now no longer able to focus on his schoolwork (History, not that it mattered), Houtaro gave in and stood up to figure out where the two were hiding.
And then something about what they were actually saying hit him. "Wait, so if I learned this Speech, could I understand English?"
Because even apart from being able to understand all the Chemies, that was still a pretty big deal to him. If he pulled his grades up, after all, his mom would be relieved!
... Yeeees? You may have to become a cat person, though.
"Huh?"
Both Chemies finally made themselves visible... both the cat-sized grasshopper and the toy-sized steam train dragging a glowing book behind them. It looked kind of like the one he'd seen Kurotchi holding, but smaller.
This time, Steamliner responded. Because one, the cats are in charge of the worldgates, and we need to head there next. And two, you're going to be needing this.
Don't forget the Driver! Hopper1 immediately let go of the book and came over to nuzzle an incredibly baffled Houtaro.
Or, yes, that.

7/6/24 21:40 (UTC)That voice interrupted the battle, and Houtaro grinned to himself realizing what it meant.
Rather than the Dark King Gigist looking affronted, however, the being looked simply baffled.
"That's... not my title?" The tone drew distracted looks from both Atropos and Clotho - ones swiftly interrupted by both sisters becoming re-engaged in the greater fight by their opponents.
"Huh? Pity, it'd have made things make sense. Never met the inventor of Death, then?"
Houtaro could hear the capital letter - briefly recalling his (secondhand) lecture about what tended to happen to avatars of the Powers, he winced, bracing himself and Nijigon for an even more powerful opponent to appear...
But nothing happened. In fact, it was the sort of nothing that almost definitely implied something was happening, only from a large distance.
Then another voice spoke, unseen but thankfully familiar: "We did meet a Goddess of Creation, though. Probably rude to just ask her about the implications-"
"Llllet's get back to that another time! Seriously, though, you didn't invent Malice. You're not even old enough to have invented humans! Or corruption! Or time!"
Between them, Hopper1 and Steamliner appeared to be on a roll - and if it wasn't for the too-close-for-comfort presence of civilians, Houtaro would have been all too happy to sit back and watch the show.
"That probably means he's just some ascended mortal. We do keep meeting them."
That did get a reaction from Gigist; portals glowed dangerously at each of his hands as he glared at his new targets.
"Gaiard? Dragonalos? Anything you want to add?"
Both Chemies responded, and while Houtaro wasn't perfect with the Speech by now, he was pretty sure their remarks amounted to insulting the Dark King's capabilities as a parent.
On that note, and with the sound of Nijigon's laughter in his ears, he charged back in to block another blow, Kamen Riders Majade and Valvarad at his side.
Post-Canon, Not!Drabble: Planets

After reorienting themselves, the visitors speak up: /Apologies for the intrusion, but when we heard about your establishment, we wanted to see for ourselves./
Smaphone takes the lead: Where did you arrive here from?
/A planet beyond the event horizon of this universe. We are the Eles'ha, and our species-Mother lives on Earth./
