"Steamliner, come on out!"
[Video focuses on a narrow space under what's probably a dresser.]
"I promise, I won't laugh... I'm sorry, okay? You look great!"
[A faint "Steeeam..." is heard. An angled shape gleams in the dark.]
"Come on... Hopper-1 is out here too!"
[A longer pause, and then something emerges. It looks very much like a toy train, but with to-scale cat ears attached.]
"See? Nothing's wrong, Steamliner!"
[The person speaking is definitely amused, but not actually laughing. Like a cat, the train is nervous, ready to dart back under the dresser.]
"Awww. It's okay, buddy."
[The person holding the phone leans down to pet the train. The train doesn't flee, but nor does it look very happy!
Then the person whips the camera around; a grasshopper wearing a cat tailpiece falls from a windowsill to just out of frame when the camera stops moving.]
"Hopper-1! I said be careful-!"
[The entire video is a three-second clip of Gekiocopter trying to lift Skebows, while Golddash cheers both Vehicle Chemies on.]
[Caption: Okay, this time, I've set up a camera to find out where my hot cocoa packets are going.]
[Video has no audio. In black-and-white images, a Unicorn and several small spheres stack themselves to reach a kitchen counter, select one packet of hot cocoa mix, and retreat.
Another sphere rolls over to the camera, knocking it over.]
[Final Caption: In retrospect, I should have seen that coming.]
[Minato has his webcam on, while he is working overnight at the Academy. He plays some music in the background...
And as the song goes on, various Chemies dance their way past the doorway. For the final tone, Steamliner skids past the door, a split-second's look of panic indicating a belated realization that this was a bad idea.
Loud smashing sounds ensue, and Minato FINALLY looks up from his work, darting outside to see what has happened.
The last few seconds of the video take place at Kyoka's desk, where she is headbanging to the bass line after starting the song over.]
[The camera starts at a low angle, a bit of red exoskeleton in the shot. There is some half-minute of running across halls, until it turns into a room and sees a very busy X Wizard.
What is the Level 10 Chemy doing? Cleaning! All sorts of supplies, a cabinet has been moved- and then the Chemy turns and stares at the camera.
For a full twenty seconds, no words are exchanged. Then there are subtitles on the video (underlying Chemy-speak):
'This is an intervention.'
Video ends.]
[Title Card - Gokigenmeteon Summon Ritual]
[The actual video is an arrangement of colored spheres - each one emits a specific note - following the pattern in this video.
The initial chicken sound comes from offscreen, and when all the chickens are supposed to pile into the room, Inphoenix appears instead.
Video ends.]
["Every so often I catch them doing this..."]
[The video, in portrait format, is of the grasshopper and toy steam train... grooming each other??
It's hard to make out exactly how they're doing it, but they seem to be well-used to the practice.]
["Aren't they cute?!"]
[Video compilation: Hopper1 leaping straight into various glass surfaces. The Chemy is fine; the humor comes from how many times it's apparently had this trouble.
Title? "It's a hard-hop life"]
[Camera is held in place by someone walking down a hallway. Faint clacking noises can be heard.]
"Hopper1?"
[Finally the user turns a corner, revealing the grasshopper Chemy... tapping away at a typewriter?!?]
"What did I say about pacing yourself? You've been on that thing for four hours!"
[There's even reams of paper placed around the typewriter, all filled with text. It's hard to see from the camera angle, but some of the papers have... math equations?]
"You're going to have to stop for today, okay? Make whatever notes you need to keep your place, but then we're getting ready for bed, got it?"
[The Chemy seems somewhat dazed, but it at least understands the person's words enough to be disappointed, then nod.]
"Okay! Should I help pick these up, or...?"
[Hopper1 darts into action, its furtive movements implying the answer is 'no'.
The video ends.]
[The entire video is ten seconds of Madwheel staring at the camera... with a 'sparkly-eyes' filter applied.
Caption: "Is this working?"]
[Antrooper is on-screen, using multiple instances to point and balance the phone camera.]
'So, am I going to be... an aunt ant?'
[Antrooper's eyes go sparkly, and then the video abruptly ends.]
[A time-lapse night video of a grasshopper and toy steam train snuggling each other. Occasionally one or the other wakes up, looks around hurriedly, then calms down, repositions itself, and goes back to sleep.
Caption: 'They've been doing this every night since they reunited.']
[The camera starts by focusing on a single electric flyswatter that has (presumably) fallen on the floor. One by one, the animal-category Chemies surround the tool, a few of them (Yamibat, Catchula, Bountybunny) touching the swatter and jumping back when it shocks them.
Ganvhale and Gorillasensei remain in their cards, appearing exasperated by the antics of their fellow Chemies.
Once all the others have formed a circle, Lixion abruptly crosses into frame, picking up the flyswatter in its mouth.
Electricity flies around harmlessly, and all the other Chemies fall back.
Lixion, realizing that perhaps this was not food, sighs, the stick still poking out of its mouth. The video ends.]
[Video is set in the Alchemy Academy. Fifteen Chemies - mostly Job category, though some of the Fantastical Chemies are there as well, and JungleJan - are all holding markers.
Hopper1 stands at a whiteboard.
Over the next three minutes, a game of Pictionary unfolds. The images are all but incomprehensible, but it appears the Chemies are better at understanding each other than humans understand them.]

i interviewed chemies with a tiny mic
26/5/24 12:04 (UTC)'what do you do when you're not out having to fight?'
'were you made in a lab?'
'have you ever been a malgam (before quarantine era)?'
'what's your favorite snack?'
'what's your favorite human holiday?'
'how'd you choose your gotchanko buddy?'
'are you a philosopher?'
'may I pet you? or is that rude?'
'if you could write a book, what would it be about?'
'have you seen any alchemists play sports?'
Chemies to feature (not in order):
ExceedFighter, X Wizard, MiteMirror, Raidenji, Sabeliger, Carery, Ninetail, Odorippa, Tsupparihebi, The Sun, Gaiard, Dragonalos, Pikahotaru, Kamantis, Kaiserbee, Hiikescue, Golddash, Yamibat, BountyBunny, Catchula, Madwheel, Kesuzo...
And of course, Hopper1 and Steamliner.
(no subject)
9/6/24 21:14 (UTC)[The Insect Chemies cluster, whispering among themselves. Finally KaiserBee holds up a sign:]
We want to see the Shugods/Greater Gods interact with each other more! We think, and they think, but we want to see more of it!
"We all want representation. Thank you!"
"What do you do when you're not out having to fight?"
[Tsupparihebi eats proffered snacks. Overlaid annotations answer: 'I do medical research! It's nice to be able to understand what I'm making happen when I help heal people. Thank you for the snacks.']
"And thank you for answering! Have a nice day. :)"
[A day in Kyoka's household]
"Kyokaaaa. Come help me! ... Please?"
[Phone camera footage of a somewhat-tidy apartment suite, as the person holding it takes their sweet time heading to the living room.
Subtitles read: This is what Spanner's Chemies are doing now that Lachesis is here to stay...
Finally, the view opens up - and one Dark Sister, in her usual style of dress, is absolutely covered in Chemies. On her shoulders, resting (gently!) where part of her veil lays on one end of the couch, perched on her legs - and of course, MachWheel is in her lap.
Lachesis' face is one of pure exasperation.]
"Kyoka!"
[Edami Kyoka laughs.
Subtitles: It took her three days to realize they'd just keep doing this even when she moved them away.
Video ends.]
"Yoacerberus, I'd like to ask you- oh! Hi!! Yes, hello!"
[The video starts out with the three-headed Chemy heading towards the cameraperson - and swiftly overwhelming them in the name of pets.]
"Ooof. Yes you're cute, it's good to see you. Hi!!"
[A few more attempts at asking questions are made, but they are all in vain.]
"How do you feel about having to change your mind? About anything?"
[Camera focuses in on Gaiard, who looks surprisingly chill about being questioned.
Subtitles as the Chemy swipes the snacks are: "Eh? I mean, you sigh a little if you'd been putting high value on a particular view of the world, but then you go and change it. Is it that big a deal for humans? ... Thank you for the food."]
"You're welcome. Thanks for the chat, Mx. Gaiard!!"
"What's your favorite book?"
"Is that a trick question?"
[X Wizard's immediate reaction is a quizzical headtilt.]
"Oh! Sorry, I meant favorite work of fiction. Though if you like nonfiction that's fine too!"
[X Wizard shrugs inoffensively - then quickly goes for some fruit snacks.]
"I keep meeting people who think it's Harry Potter, but they're very wrong. Even when they first came out, they just didn't feel right - but Young Wizards? That series is both older and had my attention from the get-go! Finding audiobooks of the Japanese editions is kind of hard, though, so I've been building my own."
[Interviewer whistles, impressed.]
"Busy, busy! That sounds like it's a fun time, too, though."
"It is! And thanks for the snacks."
[Video consists solely of FireMars and Inphoenix watching a sunrise.
Caption reads: We missed this view.]
"What's your favorite human holiday?"
[Gekiocopter zooms in close - expression one of curiosity - before it lands to better inspect the interviewer.
Caption reads: "Probably the New Years. The one good thing about different calendars is that there's more than one people celebrate! And I can get a good view of any of them, as long as I don't fly in too close to the fireworks. Not making that mistake more than once!"
"Aww, oh no! Thank you for answering~"
(no subject)
22/6/24 21:13 (UTC)[MiteMirror looks somewhat confused at the question, but is happy to go for the food.
Captions read: I mean, I'd give it to people in need? I don't have much I'd hang on to money for, and I'm not really the financial expert around here. Ending debts for people sounds nice, but I'm not sure the best way to go about it, so sharing it's my first instinct. Thank you for the snacks!]
"Wow, that's a lot! I appreciate it. <3"
"What's your favorite snack?"
[Jupitaa rolls its way around, keeping an eye on the camera. In the background, the other Cosmic Chemies can be seen.
Captions read: Lunchables! I've never had one, but I learned about them before our quarantine, and they seemed to have a high entertainment value. Stackable snacks just have some inherent appeal to me, is all.]
"Huuuuh. I hope you get to try some then, if I don't find them by the next time I see you!"
[Jupitaa looks happy, then rolls away.]
[Video begins with Loud Noises, as someone runs with their phone in their hand.]
"Hopper1?? What is it now?!"
[The person careens into a room, only to point the phone in silence for several minutes at Hopper1, entangled in yarn, hanging from a ceiling fan.]
"... How?!"
[Video timeskips to Hopper1 being untied from the fan, and having the entrapping yarn cut away from its body. All the while, Hopper1 makes mournful noises.]
"I hope this teaches you to leave the fan alone, little buddy."
(no subject)
25/6/24 21:15 (UTC)[Golddash rolls around in front of the interviewer, pacing, eyes alight.
Subtitles read: Yes! oh you want to hear one... OH! Why did the spanner turn the bolt? To get to the other side! was that okay??]
"Aww, thank you! Hahaha! I like that one."
[Golddash runs around in a tight circle, pleased, before dashing away again.]
"See you later!"
"How do you like your accommodations?"
[The Cosmic Chemies are again all present, and after some concentrated huddling Gokigenmeteon produces a sign that they then attempt to hold up:]
The cards are acceptable, as we are still mobile through them. We used to live entirely separate from the rest of the Chemies, and our original would come to visit and check how we were doing. This was early in the last century; naturally the World Wars changed how we had to do things.
"... Oh. Thank you for telling me!"
[Firemars rolls over to the snacks.... and accidentally sets them on fire. Panic ensues.]
"What do you like to read for fun?"
[Kesuzo looks up at the camera, which is fortunately already pointed at them.
Subtitles read: Data security mags! Only, don't tell the other alchemists, okay? It'd probably just stress them out more...]
"Ohhh, a secret! No problem!"
And thanks for the food!
[Following that, Kesuzo ollies off in their usual fashion.]
[Video begins with a nighttime view of someone's pool.
Timelapse kicks in for the course of an hour; right at the end of the hour, twenty Chemies sneak their way into the pool and throw themselves a party.
The house lights come on, and immediately all Chemies involved start rolling in place. Some of them chew the pool toys they've brought.]
"Hopperperper! Hop!!"
[Video fades in on Hopper1 and Steamliner following... a little red dot. Steamliner seems somewhat less enthusiastic than its partner, but it is still following along.
Laughter from the cameraperson begins.]
"Are you guys cats? Are you all secretly cats?"
[Title card fades in: Cat Chemies, Revealed!
The video is a 20-25 minute long compilation of, in twos and threes, the videoperson catching all Chemies responding to laser pointers. Whether it's Cosmic Chemies zipping around like it's laser tag, Lixion running in circles, or every single Artifact Chemy trying to tackle the device producing the laser, slowly the videoperson catches them all.
In the last clip, at a meeting of all the Chemies, footage is captured of X Wizard whipping their head around to follow one such light, same as all the others... and then he realizes what happened, and visibly gets annoyed.
The last few seconds are of the camera (and presumably the videomaker) falling towards the ground, having abruptly been transported outside. Ending card reads, "WORTH IT."]
(no subject)
5/7/24 16:59 (UTC)[Answer one comes from Zukyumpire.]
"Tokusatsu Gagaga."
[They even give fingerguns!
Video skips to answer two, from Greatonbo:]
Pokemon, but only the Johto season.
[Answer three is from Hiikescue, Madwheel, and Gekiocopter:]
Knight Rider! Airwolf! Team Knight Rider!
[Everyone turns to look at Hiikescue, but the video skips to the next answer before we see anyone's reaction.
Answer... four, let's say, comes from DonPoseidon:]
If you haven't been watching the current adaptation of Percy Jackson, it's really worth your time!
[And lastly answer five, from a collection of X Wizard, TimeLord, Gigabaham, Kuroana, Yamibat... and Hopper1:]
Leverage!! And anything that counts in the same vein gets an honorary mention.
(no subject)
10/7/24 01:20 (UTC)Video consists of a realistic-looking wasp plush being set down behind various Chemies while they aren't looking. Most of the Insect and Animal Chemies are not amused; the Vehicle, Cosmic, and Fantastic Chemies don't react at all. The Occult Chemies try to play with the plush, and both the Object and Job Chemies featured jump slightly before calming down and looking annoyed.
Hopper1 sees it in peripheral, jumps five feet in the air while screaming like something's trying to kill it, then flies away. Its tailwind manages to knock over the plush, as its scream dies off into the distance.
Ending caption: "Hopper1 and I should probably talk about this."]
[Hiikescue, at model-truck size, attempts to put out a discarded cigarette. Golddash drives by, a streamer attached saying, Only you can prevent forest fires!]
[Kaiserbee, Kamantis, Antrooper and Hopper1 all look at the camera, eyes wide.
Subtitles: Insects CAN be cute! Like if you agree!]
[Video title: "I GIVE YOU: THE CHEMYLYMPICS"
It's an hour long, consisting of various cross-Category Chemies doing various sports along with more esoteric competitive activities, like climbing curtains, doing parkour, or riding each other. The medal awards take up the last ten minutes of the video.
Kesuzo, Mechanichani, and Ninetail have all somehow accrued the most gold medals... When the ceremony is interrupted by Geryon.
Beating him up takes up the last three minutes of the video, whereupon the ceremony closes out triumphantly.]
"What video games do you like?"
[Sasukemaru looks briefly offscreen before replying:
Legend of Zelda, of course! Though I'm the only one who didn't find Majora's Mask too scary... I just really like the playstyle of the older games.]
"Huuuh. That's neat! Thanks for sharing."
[Video title: "WHERE'S THE MOCHI?!"
Video starts with a pile of multiple boxes of different flavors of mochi; the timelapse kicks in, and over the course of three hours various Chemies zoom in and out of focus, grabbing boxes.
Steamliner manages to grab the last box to itself
one video still it's there, the next it's NOT... the timelapse ceases just in time for the camera to pan over, showing the train sharing some vanilla mochi with Hopper1.][Catchula, Bussasorry, Tsupparihebi, along with ALL the Insect Chemies, have something to say:]
"SCARY" animals deserve hugs, too!!
[To their favor, they are not crowding the camera, and are all giving their best puppy-dog eyes...]
["Sometimes watching our Chemies watch movies is more entertaining than ACTUALLY watching movies..."
Video starts, and it plays out an awful lot like a cat watching a horror movie - it appears Renge and Sabimaru are having a movie night, if the assemblage including both Hiikescue and Flayrose is any indication.
The pileup when everyone is startled by a scream-filled jumpscare is quite substantial - though seeing as that's also when the person holding the camera falls over laughing, there's no indication of how far into the film they actually are.]
Snacks (pts 1 and 2)
19/9/24 17:59 (UTC)Hopper1 jumps on the table, where Houtaro has his studying material out... plus some snacks. Houtaro glances over from where he's opened a box of pocky. (Strawberry-flavor, for the curious.)
Human and Chemy stare at each other for a moment. "Hopper1..."
"Hopper!" The Chemy darted for the box, and only careful reflexes allow Houtaro to not spill anything.
"Hopper1, no! Please-!"
Hopper1 jumps on Houtaro, beginning to tickle him. Houtaro, helpless, falls out of his chair, holding the pocky just out of reach if the grasshopper wants to keep tickling him.
"I only have the one box! Hopper1, please, no-!"
Hopper1 springs up again, successfully snatching the box. Once it has the treat, it flies back to the table and... carefully removes half the sticks from the box.
Pleased with its success, it gives Houtaro a happy chirp and flies off. Houtaro continues to lay on the floor, recovering.
2: Mochi
Another day, another set of homework; Houtaro has his day cut out for him.
Under the table, Steamliner pulls up by his feet, waiting patiently for the human to notice them.
"Oh? What's up, Steamliner?"
Houtaro glances mindfully at the snack he's brought for today: simple red bean mochi.
The box has six.
"You want something, huh?"
'Liner!'
He looks at least a little resigned... but he still manages a smile for his friend.
"Okay, but just one, okay?"
'Li-ner!'
Houtaro feeds Steamliner one mochi, which it chews down in little bites. It is clear Houtaro finds this behavior adorable.
Three mochi later, Steamliner has found Hopper1, depositing this last treat for its friend. Both chirp at each other. Houtaro watches from around the corner, thoroughly gobsmacked.
Chemies and Aliens (Blue Beetle/Gotchard crossover)
1/2/25 14:43 (UTC)Well, that flight test was a bust. Jaime would have to make note: altering the design of his flight thrusters too much could make them go seriously off-course. He'd get such ribbing at home.
Getting rescued from an embarrassing terminal faceplant by magic-users had been more novel than it should have been - but it wasn't like Khaji Da and the Green Lanterns, so it wouldn't hurt to compare notes with them, right?
That was when they were mobbed by a bunch of colorful creatures - friendly ones, and apparently empathic? But they all seemed more interested in Khaji Da than himself, and that was fine by Jaime.
With two conversations going on at once, a little bleedthrough was expected - but not for Khaji Da to respond to the description of some evil alchemist guy by saying "Ewwww!"
Jaime could not be blamed for his spittake.
