CHARACTER NAME: Hopper1 (Occasionally spelled Hopper-1 or Hopper 1)
CHARACTER SERIES: Kamen Rider Gotchard
[OOC]
Backtagging: Sure!
Threadhopping: Please let me know that this is something you'd like to do, but once you have go ahead!
Fourthwalling: Am A-OK with fourthwalling!
Offensive subjects (elaborate): This is a canon that deals with trauma! Insensitive characters will be responded to ICly; insensitivity about the concept of trauma OOCly is not something I would appreciate with this character.
Additionally, this is a character that does not really use a gender. OOC-level complaints about this are not appreciated and will be ignored.
[IC]
Hugging this character: Go for it!
Kissing this character: ... It's essentially a mechanical grasshopper. Responses (depending on intent) may be VERY ambivalent.
Flirting with this character: See above.
Fighting with this character: Go for it! I need the exercise in writing fight choreography anyway.
Injuring this character (include limits and severity): Would prefer to plan (since it appears difficult for Chemies to be damaged in card form, among other things), but can be arranged.
Killing this character: Only in very specific circumstances! Please ask first.
Using telepathy/mind reading abilities on this character: Go for it! We don't know how complex Hopper1's thoughts actually are, but your character is welcome to try. Empaths may fare better than those thinking words at it.
Additional Information: What is a Chemy? Per canon, they are accidental creations from alchemical processes. Given their reactiveness with human emotion, and presumed capacity of their own, I am inclined to portray them as having a general emotion-sense (and by extension, a life-sense). If you wish your character to be immune to detection in this fashion (allowing them to get a jump-scare in on the little grasshopper), feel free! Just let me know ahead of time/when starting the thread that that's what you want.

I'm not actually apping, this just makes my puzzle-brain happy: TLV Permissions
21/9/24 12:58 (UTC)•CONTACT METHOD: Plurk (primary - Autistic_Ace), DM, or Discord (s_m_f)
•THREAD-JACKING: Am cool with it, but please give a heads-up first!
•FOURTH WALLING / CANON PUNCTURE: I am personally thrilled with this sort of thing; just give me a heads-up before dropping it in a tag, but then I can roll with it.
•BACKTAGGING: Yes, though my cutoff point is three months unless it is character-development heavy.
•AVOIDED TOPICS: None in particular, though the more internet-troll-y a Network thread is in tone, the likelier it is I will need to walk away.
•PREFERRED GENDER PRONOUN: She/they (Note: I play this character as agender, with it/they pronouns.)
IC CHARACTERISTICS:
•CURRENT CANON POINT: Post-canon (episode 50 of Kamen Rider Gotchard; as with all Kamen Rider series, more material is yet to be released / translated to English.)
•PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Is a housecat-sized grasshopper that looks slightly mechanical and has arrow-motifs incorporated into its form. Can only speak its own name. Is fully capable of flight. Purple eyes, with green and yellow carapace, it definitely sticks out! Also surprisingly cute for a bug.
•DEMEANOR: Genial, curious, and very unlikely to stay still for any length of time unlthess it's stuck somewhere.
•ABILITIES: As an alchemical creature inherently attuned to (mostly just human) emotion, Hopper1 can sense others' emotions, malice-colored threats (to wit: able to alert the protagonists when Gigist or Glion are about to drop something new on the team, or when a Malgam is about to form), and presumably this counts as an overall life-sense. Also, as an alchemical being, it functions as a component in physical transformations both willingly (Kamen Rider Gotchard himself, in his base form SteamHopper) and unwillingly (Malgams - there are three types, so into the dropdown we go!).
Malgams
Malgams are the Monster of the Week of this Kamen Rider series; any Chemy can be fused with a human experiencing significant negative emotion (a robber trying to flee the scene of a crime; a salaryman turning serial killer; a girl suffering from a bad breakup - there is one exception where a spirit fused with a like-minded Chemy to bring about something only a Rider Kick could accomplish, but it's not clear how common that sort of trickery is in-universe). Then there are Golden Malgams, which specifically involve alchemy-derived Malice Dolls, which have 'purer' malice than the average human (which have things like... more positive emotions, connections with other living beings, etcetera). These are stronger Malgams, as are appropriate for monsters fought closer to the halfway point of the series. Then there are Dark Malgams, brought about specifically by Gigist - a former-human-turned-third-of-a-Demon-King - who originated the first Chemies two thousand years ago. He explicitly is stated to cannibalize a Chemy's own inherent Malice to create these forms, and after these are defeated the Chemy is left in a drained state, with no emotion-energy to speak of (effectively dead). The only thing that prevents or fixes this is the intervention of another specific Chemy, which takes us beyond the purview of this character writeup. Example visuals of all three types can be found hereHopper1 in particular has also been gifted a powerboost, allowing it to shift back and forth between a more bipedal form as needed (Crosshopper).
Details
This form is primarily gold and blue, with a red X on its chest. The form comes with a helmet and shoulderpads. Visual can be found here•MEDICAL INFORMATION: Very hard to physically damage; possibly as an inherent factor of being a Chemy, possibly because the cards made to store Chemies are magic. Seems to need to eat, but beyond that not much is known/shown about the internals of Chemies.
•CABIN INFORMATION: Currently N/A, but would look like Kitchen Ichinose, Houtaro's family's restaurant and home.
•OFFENSIVE SUBJECTS: Talking about nonhumans (particularly Chemies) as tools, or calling them unintelligent. [Assumed button topics: abuse/abuse of power and emotional manipulation.]
IC PERMISSIONS:
•MENTAL: Can another character use mental abilities on your character? Including mind-control, clairvoyance, telepathy, empathy, or dream manipulation / intrusion. YES. Hit me up for plotting on this, it always sounds fun (though maybe not for Hopper1).
•MIMICRY: Can another character imitate your character in physical appearance and/or voice? Yes! Have fun being a bug, buddy.
•VIOLENCE: Can another character provoke a physical fight with your character? Yes; it is entirely possible to trigger a fight with this character. Please reach out to plot first, though.
•MAGIC: Can another character use magic on your character? Yes; see above.
•DEBATE: Can another character pursue yours for a debate. Would OOCly prefer not to, but ICly Hopper1 might go along with it.
•OTHER / NOTES: Despite lack of speech ability, Hopper1 does have an internal life going on there, and is capable of understanding what people say. Autotranslate will not provide a fix for the first part, and Hopper1 will need other methods to accentuate communication.
Also, we don't actually know how old Hopper1 is; the only Chemies with a canonical age were the first ones created, approximately 2000 years ago. Since it is never stated for Hopper1 in particular, I am playing them as older than the writers probably assumed, with more life experience and time to learn to read/write to match.
TLV 4th Wall: NARRENSCHIFF OPT-IN PLOTTING! + HANDWAVE
26/9/24 13:12 (UTC)Which means anyone can become a malgam! Being defeated in a fight is the canonical way to separate person and Chemy, but if anyone wants to volunteer other strategies (or even just let the Chemy talk/emote them down from whatever they were originally going to do), this is the place to hash it out!
If you want to handwave someone you're bringing to the Narrenschiff as having gone through this rigmarole before (or having done it multiple times, oof), give me a shout! (Since the Cap'n isn't handing out favors to nullify powers, Hopper1 and the other Chemies can't suppress this capacity on their own. Characters with their own shielding against unexpected fusions should still have those work, however.)
